Questions about FormulaR racing brakes:

5. What distinguishes Zimmermann's racing products?

Our racing brake discs are used in the VLN endurance championship.
Our discs are particularly characterized by their good performance under the extreme conditions of the Nürburgring.
As with all Zimmermann products, you are buying a quality product that can withstand the highest demands in driving.

6. Do I have to order the fastening material or accessories separately or is this included with the friction ring / aluminum cup?

The fastening material is only included in the pre-assembled brake disc.
When re-ordering a single friction ring or a single aluminum pot, the fastening material must be ordered separately.

7. Are the brake discs packed individually or in pairs?

The pre-assembled brake discs are packed individually.
So you order a left brake disc and a right brake disc for one axis.

8. Are the individual friction rings balanced?

Yes, the individual friction rings are balanced.

9. Can I also use the racing products for normal road use?

Racing products are not street legal!
They are only intended for use on the racetrack or for display in showrooms.
If you want to drive this in road traffic, you normally need in Germany and in Europe an individual operating permit (EBE). Please note the relevant laws.
Part certificates cannot be provided.

10. What should I pay attention to when installing the racing windshield?

In order to prevent problems, the brake disc should only be changed by trained specialists.
Basically, please note the following:

Brake discs

Only change axles, if necessary note the direction of travel.
Center it correctly and fasten with the prescribed torque in the correct order.
Important: check lateral runout.
When replacing the brake disc, use new Otto Zimmermann brake pads or other approved brake pads (ECE R90 approval).

wheel hub

The contact surface must be bare (there must be no rust or dirt).
Do not apply sliding pastes or similar.
A light spray of a metal-free oil can be applied to facilitate later disassembly.
Contact surface and centering must not be damaged.
The contact surface must be level (hub runout leads to side runout!).

Brake pads

Use Otto Zimmermann brake pads or other approved pads.
Select suitable pads for vehicle type / year of manufacture.
Apply the brakes as professionally as possible, avoid force braking.

Caliper

Check protective caps for damage and replace if necessary.
Check pistons and guide elements for damage and proper function and replace if necessary.
Ensure that the new brake pads move easily in the saddle shaft.

Suspension
Wishbones and stabilizer rubber bushings must not be worn out, replace if necessary.
Check shock absorbers and replace if necessary.
Check the front axle setting according to the manufacturer's specifications and adjust if necessary.

Wheel bearings

Check play and if necessary adjust or secure according to the regulations.
Steering parts Check steering play and adjust if necessary.
Check tie rods and steering damper for damage and proper function and replace if necessary.

Wheels / tires

Check for imbalance and balance if necessary.
Check of vertical or lateral runout, rim runout, rim runout and compliance with the specifications.

11. Can the fastening material (screws) be reused when changing the friction ring or aluminum cup?

We recommend that you do not use the fastening material again when changing the friction ring or aluminum cup.
When the friction ring and aluminum pot are screwed together, a tightening torque is applied, which causes the screw and nut to stretch.
If the screw connection is reused and the prescribed tightening torque is applied, it will lose strength.

Questions about FormulaR brake-pads:

12. What distinguishes Zimmermann's racing brake pads?

Our racing brake pads are used in the VLN endurance championship.
Our brake pads are particularly characterized by their good performance under the extreme conditions of the Nürburgring.
As with all Zimmermann products, you are buying a quality product that can withstand the highest demands in driving.

13. How many single pads do I get when I add a brake pad set to the shopping cart and purchase?

Brake pads are always sold in sets of 4. That means with one set you always get 4 pads for a complete axle. The pads should always be replaced axle by axle.

14. Can I combine the FormulaR brake pads from Zimmermann also with ceramic carbon brake discs?

No, the Zimmermann FormulaR brake pads friction mixture is intended exclusively for casted brake discs.

15. Can I also use the racing pads for normal road use?

FormulaR racing pads are not street legal! They are only intended for use on the race track or for display. If you want to drive them in road traffic, you need an individual operating permit (EBE) in Germany and in Europe. Please observe the relevant laws. Parts certificates can not be provided.

16. Are there different brake pads for sprint races and for the long-distance races?

For the sprint distance, we recommend brake pads with part numbers ending in .3. For the long distances, we recommend pads whose part numbers end in .1 and .2, as these wear less quickly due to the friction coefficient.

17. Can I also change the brake pads only on the left or only on the right side of an axle?

Brake Pads should always and exclusively be changed axlewise.

18. How do the friction compounds OZ 10, OZ 20 and OZ 30 differ?

Friction coefficient of the respective OZ friction compound at different brake pressures.

The graph shows the friction coefficient of the respective OZ friction compound at different brake pressures.

The compounds differ in their friction coefficients (see graph).

In general, the friction coefficient of the OZ 20 compound is the most stable. This mixture is therefore optimal for long-distance use.

Compound OZ 10 is used for the rear axle and can be used for both long-distance and sprint use.

The OZ 30 compound offers the highest friction coefficient under all the specified pressures and is therefore recommended for the sprint track, also because the wear here is somewhat higher than with the OZ 20 compound.
